The ADS team is part of Amazon’s speech platform organization that provides speech recognition capabilities for a variety of Amazon products and searches, most visibly, the Amazon Echo product.
Data Engineering Manager is a newly created role to build world class data platform and deploy scalable business intelligence tools for ADS teams. The ideal candidate relishes working with large volumes of data, enjoys the challenge of highly complex technical contexts, and, above all else, is passionate about data and analytics. He/she is an expert with data modeling, ETL design and business intelligence tools and passionately partners with the business to identify strategic opportunities where improvements in data infrastructure creates outsized business impact. He/she is a self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity, able to think big (while paying careful attention to detail), and enjoys working in a fast-paced team. The ideal candidate need to possess exceptional technical expertise in large scale data warehouse and BI systems with hands-on knowledge on SQL, Distributed/MPP data storage, Hadoop and AWS services. He/she is required to have demonstrated leadership capabilities in recruiting and building exceptional engineering teams to deliver high impact solutions.
Core Responsibilities:
· Lead the Data Engineering team for Alexa Data Services (ADS) BI
· Own data platform and business intelligence applications including operational and executive dashboards.
· Coach the data engineers and ultimately raising the bar of data engineering excellence across the ADS organization.
· Hire and build a team of Data engineers with a culture of customer centric innovation.
· Design, implement, and support data warehouse infrastructure using AWS, Hadoop technologies
· Lead and build a large scale self-service BI platform based on visualization tools (like OBIEE, Amazon QuickSight, Tableau etc.)
· Lead the design and delivery of real-time operational intelligence system for global teams.
· Deploy a robust data integration system (ETL) based on Python and EMR.
· Manage numerous requests concurrently and strategically, prioritizing when necessary
· Work with business owners to build data sets that answer their specific business questions.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor's degree or higher in a quantitative/technical field (e.g. Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering).
· 10+ years of relevant experience one of the following areas: Data engineering, business intelligence or business analytics.
· Expert-level proficiency in writing complex, highly-optimized SQL queries across large datasets.
· Demonstrated ability in data modeling, ETL development, and Data warehousing.
· Demonstrated experience in managing and prioritizing a project backlog.
· Experience providing technical leadership and mentor other engineers for the best practices in the data engineering space.
· Demonstrated experience defining and driving an analytics roadmap.
· Data Warehousing Experience with Oracle, Redshift, Teradata, etc.
· Experience with Big Data Technologies (Hadoop, Hive, Hbase, Pig, Spark, etc.)
· Ability to manage competing priorities simultaneously and drive projects to completion.
· 10+ years of relevant experience one of the following areas: Data engineering, business intelligence or business analytics.
